About the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) — the successor to the former Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) — is Alberta’s Provincial Nominee Program, run jointly with IRCC. It nominates people whose skills fill Alberta labour shortages, or who plan to buy or start an Alberta business, and who can support themselves and their families. AAIP operates 8 streams across worker and entrepreneur categories, with an annual allocation of roughly 6,400 nominations.
Worker Streams
- Alberta Opportunity Stream — for candidates already living and working in Alberta with a job offer from an Alberta employer
- Alberta Express Entry Stream — for candidates in the federal Express Entry pool who meet Alberta’s economic, sector, and occupational priorities; includes dedicated pathways for health care, technology, and police occupations
- Rural Renewal Stream — for candidates with a job offer in a community that has applied for and received rural designation
- Tourism and Hospitality Stream — for candidates living and working in Alberta with a full-time offer to continue with an Alberta tourism/hospitality employer
Since September 30, 2024, all AAIP worker stream applications must be invited through the Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) system — candidates register a profile, are ranked against periodic selection draws, and only invited candidates may submit a full application.
Entrepreneur Streams
- Farm Stream — for experienced farm operators establishing or purchasing a farm business in Alberta
- Graduate Entrepreneur Stream and Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream — for graduates starting or buying an Alberta business
- Rural Entrepreneur Stream — for entrepreneurs starting or buying a business in a rural Alberta community
