About the Northwest Territories Nominee Program

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) lets the Government of the NWT (GNWT) nominate foreign nationals who want to live and work permanently in the territory, filling labour shortages and supporting Northern economic growth. The NTNP does not require an LMIA — but employers must document local recruitment efforts before hiring internationally.

Program Streams

• Employer-Driven Stream — includes a Skilled Worker / NWT Express Entry category for critical labour shortages that can’t be filled locally
• Francophone Stream — for bilingual (French–English) workers across all TEER levels who meet minimum language test scores in both languages
• Business Stream — for investors, requiring at least $200,000 CAD invested in Yellowknife, or $100,000 CAD elsewhere in the NWT, plus net-worth and ownership requirements

Employers must operate a registered NWT business or government office for at least a year, and be in good standing with the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission and Employment Standards Act, before nominating a candidate.
